Do You Have Ankle Pain?
This is a great story about a lady who was a former lady football player and later got into a challenging contact sport involving boxing.
As I watched her train with her coach, I noticed her hips were very tight and she had trouble moving on one side of her body.
I later found out in a conversation with her that she had some knee pain.
When she inquired about Postural Therapy for helping her, first thing I mentioned was take off the boots. She had laced boots that restricted her ankle which now caused her to misuse her knee joint due to the tight and restricted hip joint. She immediately removed the laced up boot and continued with her practice.
This type of story is more frequent than most realize.
When I see clients who had previous ankle injuries and now have low back pain and hip pain, it's real easy to understand how they hurt their ankles and why the back pain started or in some cases continued and got worse.
Another issue I run across is the boot used to restrict the ankle due to injury. Now the hips are offset; one side will be higher than the other and eventually you will get low back pain.
Why? because one leg will be longer than the other due to the boot, and limping. This will cause the brain to create a new motor engram for walking, which is a habit. The brain will not know to return you to the correct loading position. It's job is to make sure you are upright and able to stand, even if you are not in an optimum structural position.
